Course Content
During your two years, students learn how to convey and interpret ideas, feelings and observations into textile work and record experiences, mainly in visual form. They will also develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of relevant materials, processes, technologies and resources alongside studying the work of historical and contemporary Textile and Art practitioners. We like to take students out of their comfort zones to discover new experiences, whilst at the same time being guided and supported. Part of the course involves exploring ideas, discussing and evaluating images, using understanding to develop and realise potential through textile work. We also encourage students to participate in all aspects of Textiles such as combined visits to galleries, museums and exhibitions.

Why Study Textiles?
The personal attributes and skills that you develop whilst studying Textiles are vast. As students explore unfamiliar techniques and materials, they develop the tenacity required to problem solve at higher levels. The intricate hand eye coordination and flair for design and experimentation with fabric and with numerous materials demonstrates dexterity and adaptability – as well as an eye for detail. Analysing and researching the work of other practitioners helps students develop lifelong skills that are transferable into any career path.

Students produce a portfolio of work for coursework in Component 1 which is a Personal Investigation, while Component 2 is an externally set assignment.

Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at grade 5 or above. Students must have achieved grade 5 or above in Maths and English. Entry subject to portfolio review.

The Accord Multi Academy Trust is an educational charity established in September 2016 that is currently made up of four academies who were the founding members of the Trust. In September 2016 Horbury Academy and Ossett Academy & Sixth Form College came together, moving away from their stand-alone Trust status and were joined in December 2016 by Horbury Primary Academy and Middlestown Primary Academy.

The overarching vision for the Trust is to work in one ‘Accord – celebrating the differences of each academy through strong collaboration in order to inspire all members of our learning community to be the best that they can be.
