Course Content
The course is comprised of four units, including three mandatory units and one optional unit. Students will explore the principles and applications of medical science, while also developing practical and investigative skills that build on this core knowledge.
The mandatory units cover:
- Human anatomy, physiology, and pathology
- Health issues and scientific reporting
- Practical microbiology and infectious diseases.
The optional unit allows students to specialise in one of the following areas:
- Diseases, disorders, treatments, and therapies
- Biomedical science
- Human reproduction and fertility.
This qualification is designed to be taken alongside A Levels as part of a broader study programme. It complements subjects such as Physical Education, Sport, Sociology, Chemistry, and Psychology.

Assessment
Assessment is through a combination of internal assignments and external assessments. Units are graded Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.
Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including a grade 5 or above in both Mathematics and English. An interest in science and healthcare is recommended.
